The Mirror

I look in the mirror and who do I see
It is a woman but it is not me
Where is that girl with the long soft hair
Where is she now, the girl without a care
What happened to the light that shone in her eyes
She was so beautiful and oh so wise
Where did she go in that blink of an eye
All I can do now is sit down and cry
The blush on my cheeks has faded away
And it all seemed to have happened in just one day
How can I go on looking like this
My life is so sad for this unexpected twist
Life took a turn I didn’t expect
Look at the wrinkles on my face and my neck
I thought I would always remain the same
But life played a very mean game

This poem appears in the anthology “Forever Spoken”….. I think it speaks for many
women who are aging and can see the changes in The Mirror
