THE SOLDIER

He walked forth in honor
Spoke of fear aloud
Held his wife’s picture
Always was he proud
Sent off to battle
A horrendous and senseless war
His heart was broken
And at his soul it tore
Seeing broken bodies
Children walking in the street
Hearing crying of the victims
Lying at his feet
Buildings tumbled
Lying on the ground
Mothers screaming for their children
No where to be found
Buddies being wounded
Sent home in body bags
He cannot forget them
All that was left were their tags
Stench of dirty water
Fear in every eye
A senseless war without solution
All he could do was cry
He was brave and did not cringe
As a bullet entered his chest
He gave his life for his country
He did his very best
Away went his body
Neatly tucked in a body bag
Buried in a cemetery
His wife left with his tags
No husband to hold her
No father for the little one
No more would he smile
Or walk with her in the sun
How can anyone say with fervor
This is a necessary war
It’s time that it ended
Our Soldiers can take no more
