SADNESS

She loved ribbons
As a little girl
Twirled them
Between her curls
As she grew
It was satin and lace
Dresses that glittered
A made-up face
Smiled all the time
Underneath all that glowed
Was sadness
And a lonely soul
Jewelry was her next desire
Diamonds, platnium and gold
Years passed
She was growing old
Family money
Never had to earn
Never had the lessons
We all should learn
Broken promises
That were made
For her money
She was played
Suitors lined up
At the door
It wasn’t for love
But for so much more
Her eyes started to puff
With age
Plastic surgery
Was the rage
A nip here
A tuck there
Perhaps she ought to
Change her hair
Fooled by those
She thought cared
Love lost
Heart’s wear and tear
She walked around
With a heart so heavy
Sadness flowing
Like a broken levee
But never being taught
When she was young
She died destroyed
Her song was sung
She was buried
In satin and lace
Ribbons in her hair
But sad was her face
SADNESS
