'OH WHAT A SIN'

There was a ladder
She wanted to climb
One to success
So sublime

The goals were many
The rewards were great
But nothing seemed
To satiate

She travelled far
And travelled free
She left the past
Where it should be

She left her love
Ring in hand
She wanted power
Not a man

She was never lonely
Although alone
She loved being a woman
She wouldn’t atone

Her life was full
Of great rewards
She had success
And applause

She often looked back
Wondering what would have been
If she stood
And married him

Her heart wandered
Given to none
Didn’t want it tainted
By anyone

No one knew
She carried a torch
For the young man
Swinging on the porch

She never knew
What happened to him
She finally sobbed
“OH WHAT A SIN”

'OH WHAT A SIN'
