WHITE FLOWERS

While in a twilight sleep
She heard footsteps near her bed
Fingers touching her eyes
And a whisper of a kiss on her head
She woke very startled
And felt the chill of night
She feel back to sleep
Still she felt a fright
Waking up in the morning
Tired from her dream
On the pillow next to her
White flowers from near the stream
She recognized the texture
And really felt she would scream
Where did they come from
Who came to her while she slept
What about the flowers
She looked at them as she wept
Remembering their first meeting
The look of fantasy in his eyes
Talking so quickly
She loved him she realized
Their life together
One of love and hate
He wanting freedom
She not wanting to wait
At the crossroads
Each went their separate way
He turned and promised her
I’ll bring you white flowers one day
She read in the newspaper
Of his sad demise
His motorcycle went over the bridge
And he did not lie
He kept his promise
And put flowers on her bed
She closed her eyes
And realized he was dead
Now knowing he truly loved her
Leaving flowers and then he was gone
She being the one he visited
Before going to the great beyond
