Artist's Description

I made this piece when I had first started going on anti-depressants. When I’d finally gotten them, I’d bad reactions to it, then switched to something new. I was very reluctant to start the new one because of the experience I’d had with the other one. It jad gotten to the point where I just wanted to deal with my depression on my own and not take medication. I had the idea for this piece to show the struggle a lot of people have with taking medication to help. The end goal for getting help with depression is to not be sad anymore. To get better, essentially. It’s an unrealistic goal because even though a person may be on medications, it’s not a guarantee that they’ll meet their end goal. They’ll be chained down to pills and medications just to try and be themselves again. It’s as if the person was an inch from the finish line, but held back from actually crossing it. It seems like they’re going to win, but they’re still held back by having to take medication that may or may not cloud their mind or make the depression worse.
