Forever and Today

The ground is slightly damp as I sit here in the cold.
When the excitement of the day is done,
And the people have gone home,
I sit here, alone in front of the fire.
At first I attempt to understand why I cannot tear my eyes away.
Yet before long I succumb to the magic of the flame,
Imprisoned by its intense beauty.
It draws my spirit out as I question it, entranced.
You are alive, aren’t you?
It merely stares me down, unwilling to respond,
Though I already know the answer.
Growing, breathing, dancing, dying.
How could anyone deny your life?
Again I find myself captivated by its dance.
Never ceasing, never the same,
How could anyone ever look away?
They miss a part of your dance, never to be repeated.
They go on about their lives, never will they understand.
But you continue to split the air with the proudest dance.
Uncaring hearts cannot tear down your strength.
You are light, life, passion.
You are beauty, grace, joy.
You are the flame that always burns.
And I am trapped within your gaze,
Forever and today.
