A Meaningless Institution

The cold pew is relentless beneath me.
Discomfort creeps closer on all sides.
The room is filled with faces, but none of them are real,
Merely wax figures masquerading as Christians.
The hypocracy is suffocating.
How can so many people get dressed up
In their fresh-pressed Sunday’s best,
To participate in this mock sincerity?
Looking around, I see the fakeness of reality.
A faint spark of spirit appears on a select few young faces,
Everything else is cold plastic.
So many are here to be in this show,
But it is not very convincing.
Where is the intense passion and excitement?
Where is the true spirituality?
Is that not what this is supposed to be about?
I can feel my soul being stifled.
The colors fade.
The music grows faint.
God, where did you go?
