Artist's Description

Panther Creek, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Carson, Washington, USA

Canon 5DII, 24-70mm f/2.8L II @ 28mm, CPL

From the panther’s eye gush forth the panther’s tears (or tiers, as it were), and in fact these two images of Panther Creek were taken within feet of each other from different angles and with different focal lengths. The wonderfully soft and subdued lighting here was the product of a verdant canopy of vine maple, western red cedar, and western hemlock filtering light from an evolving overcast sky. There were a million and a half possibilities for intimate shots in this idyllic area, but time was running short and we were still on the trail of Panther Creek Falls. Hmmm…not sure why, but I just realized I’ve subconsciously taken a bit of a crying theme with this fantastic body of water. Let them be tears of joy, then, because it’s impossible to be sad when surrounded by such a soothing panoply of color, sound, and movement.
