Artist's Description

A gap between two freeway ramps/bridges on the edge of the Perth CBD – originally a sliver of light between dark undersides of concrete structures, but highly modified in Photoshop to focus on the edges of that sliver.

In case you wonder why this has been submitted to the ‘A Place to Call Home’ Group, there are people who have no other home than this. These are the hidden people of our societies; the ones you don’t see because we drive, don’t walk, beneath freeways. The ones we don’t see because we tune them out of our image of the good society. The ones who exist on the periphery and are just a blur in our peripheral vision.

So this picture is an anomaly – even an oxymoron. Under a freeway is a place of dark, not light; a place of despair, not of hope.
