Spirits Having Flown

I’ll get a tune in my head
and I can tell when it’s time
to stop creating
for I will second guess my muse
and tell the voice to still itself.
Manic neutrons get out of control
sensations begin to acquire the taste
of nasal drips so long ago
adrenaline is a runaway train
yet I fear the spirits having flown
will find in their own season
that time is liesurely enough
to make a larger circle back.

I’ve got unfinished business
lying around
amongst the ancient photographs
I should have catalogued
poems half written
lines used and then discarded.
If I didn’t have a photographic memory
I would need a warehouse to store
the avalanche of sensations
I feel compelled
both honored and burdened
to record.

Yet there are other times
when all escapes me
i cannot conjur anything but a sigh
and I remember the tempest
so feverish was I
to marker down the words
of where I was
sailing
they came to me
and gently lifted under each arm
all was all too easy
and there was nothing between
my mind and heart
and the music of the kill.
