Blue Glass

Blue glass layed out upon the floor
grandmas treasures the babies fingers
caress the curvature of each half orb
and see themselves in the lingering full moons.
Familiar smells voices and warm light
seedlings of curiosity fall and then grow
and the magic engraines itself in the memory
of grandmas treasures colorful and fragile.

Blue glass layed out upon the table
the child knows them for the goblets they are
the ringing noise when tapped by a finger
the sound of swirling milk as it pours
and takes on the color of a field near nightfall
the ringing of a bell saying supper is now
running feet following one after another
followed by one small voice saying grace.

Blue glass in the china cabinet
viewed like a declaration of independance
grandmas treasures in the tower
glittering cobalt tiarras and sapphires
that crown the head of the one that spread them
out on the lionshead rug on the floor
who brought down the stars and told you the distance
was nothing
and everything within your reach could be yours.
