Alston is the highest market town in England and is situated in the magnificent Northern High Pennines. Straddling the border between England and Scotland as well as Cumbria and Northumberland, this desolate area has a bleak beauty that rivals its well known cousin- the Lake District. This particular scene inspired me as soon as I strolled on this green lane. Although this is a ‘tamed’ part I was still struck by the space and colour.
This 30″ × 22″ watercolour was painted with Windsor & Newton artists paints on Saunders Waterford 140lb NOT paper.
