The Midwest Of W.A

approx. 360 kms east of Geraldton on the west coast is Mt Magnet here is a few things about my area…
Mount Magnet is situated at the crossroadsvof the Miners Pathway and lives up to its historic role as the ‘Hub of the Murchison’. The perfect base to explore the region.
Mt Magnet offers stunning landscapes and wildflowers (if we get the rain),sunsets and clear night skies perfect for star-gazing. It is the longest continuous goldmining settlement in Western Australia offering rich land for gold prospecting.
The outdoor cinema is on of only 3 originals still operating in Western Australia.
Just 9 kms north of town is this magnificent area of granite breakaways,
the site holds great significent to the local indigenous people. the Badimia people, containing ceremonial sites and art.
Cue 79 kms north of Mt Magnet..
After gold was discovered in Cue on New Years Day 1892 Cue and its twin town Day Dawn grew to become the Administrative centre for the Murchison region.
As A quintessential gold rush town, Cue boomed during the 1890’s and was known as the’Queen of the Murchison’ its rich and colourful prospecting past is reflected in the many historical buildings and streets wide enough for camel trains.
Visit Walga Rock, a granite monolith famous for Aboriginal rock art. Other places to visit are Garden rock,Milly Soak and Nallan Lake.
Alternatively why not visit the Great Fingal Mine Office at Day Dawn. Or wander thru the intriguing ghost town of Big Bell
This is just a small part of what this has to offer ..hope you enjoy reading about the area where I live
