Wall Art

Artist's Description

A few years back I walked into a gallery in Mt Beauty and it had a wall full of Wallace’s Hut images which I must say I found slightly odd even though it is a very picturesque hut. I then asked the proprieter if he was interested in seeing some of my work, “Oh yerr, have you got any of Wallaces Hut? That’s all I ever sell.” He ended up taking some of my work even though I didn’t but I must say I struggle a bit with this whole mentality and how much some spots just seemed to be photographed to death.

But as demonstrated by this post we all do it, Craig’s Hut being another of those shot to death locations. As a musician and photographer I truly believe that ‘Repetition is the death of art’ (Robin Green) and although it is good to learn from and replicate the works of the masters while we are learning and developing our own artistic personality if we never move on from this to to establish our own artistic identity we haven’t really added a new interesting voice to the world just copied an existing one which isn’t nearly as interesting or valuable. I aspire to this and no doubt often fail (as I believe I have in this shot) but it’s often through trying and failure that something beautiful and new is occassionally created.

Just my 2 cents.
