Artist's Description

Believe it or not but this is the first photo I ever took with my fisheye lens. I had to wait 9 months to get the stupid thing after paying for it in total presuming I’d get it within a few days (sorry for the gear whinge, I just had to get it out of my system….. stupid canon!). Anyway this was taken in the Cape Howe dune field, a magnificent stretch of coastline that marks the border between Victoria and NSW (Croajingolong/ Nadgee National Parks). That morning I was vainly trying to get to sleep debating whether I’d have more chance in succeeding if I kept warm in my bag and suppressed my need to pee or if I got up, froze but could then doze without the incessant pressure on my bladder. Like you wanna know this, but shut up its my photo memory not yours!! Anyway the debate itself was keeping me up, so I did the inevitable. Inside the tent it looked pitch black but once I got out the dimmest glimmer of the coming dawn could be seen on the horizon. Since I was up anyway I decided to don gear and walk to the summit of the highest dune in the field. From there I marvelled at the way the white dunes progressively absorbed all the predawn colours and got this shot just after the sun cleared the horizon, an amazing morning of photography that chewed through many rolls of film.
