Artist's Description

The southern end of Five Mile Beach is in the remote northern section of Wilsons Promontory. Although it is a lengthy 25km from the nearest car park is nevertheless an easy walk along a road and beach. Visitors to this beautiful spot however are rare. On this particular trip I had forgone the ’easy’ route and had traversed the extremely hazardous coastline below The Cathedral, coming from Sealers Cove. My appreciation of this magnificent sunrise was therefore further heightened by the struggle it took to get there. As a photographer I always dream of being in the right place at the right time to catch such a sunrise, but seldom does it occur. On this occasion my breath was literally taken away upon poking my head out the door of my tent. In a flash I was up madly rushing around taking pictures before the light was gone. Within minutes the colour had faded and another hot day had begun.

This shot along with 107 others is available in my book The Prom – Wilsons Promontory National Park, Victoria, Australia

For more shots from this area check out my Wilsons Promontory gallery.

To read a story about the trip on which I took this shot see my Tour de Prom article.
