Artist's Description

Taken in the amazing Western Arthurs in Tassie. I took this shot on the fifth day of an eight day walk I did on this amazing range back in 1998. The original shot I got developed was a bit ordinary as back in those days a lot of labs seemed to warm shots up a bit to make skin tones look nicer, while messing up the colours in landscape shots. Consequently the original print was a little disappointing until I scanned it last week and found the unaltered hues more to my liking.

I took this shortly after climbing Mt Aldebaren in the background and was on my way back to rejoin my walking companions at Lake Sirona. As I neared the lip of the glacial cirque above the lake on this overcast day the sun came out for a brief moment sending me into a photographic frenzy as I hurriedly scanned the nearby terrain for an interesting foreground feature to compliment Mt Aldebaren. To my delight this amazing tor was only about 20 meters away and after running over and seeing the little window in it I took the shot, seconds latter the sun went behind another cloud. Now with the hurry gone I looked for other compositions but found no other to compare to my hurried one.
