Artist's Description

I dedicate this piece to all endangered bird species. May we continue to protect them.

“Jewel” is an original painting of an Amethyst-Throated Hummingbird. Mixed media: acrylic paints & prisma colored pencils on black heavy stock, textured paper.

The Amethyst-throated Hummingbird is native to Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. This hummingbird is easily recognized by its bright pink throat. It is a characteristic species of the interior of humid montane evergreen and pine-oak forests. Although the Amethyst-throated Hummingbird is widespread and is fairly common, it potentially is vulnerable to deforestation.
