Open Again

Where is the past
we knew this would give us ~
and leave us no less
for the ways we returned.
Where are the petals
we left on our memory ~
would serve to remind us
of lessons unlearned.

The sound of forever
still calls me to dreaming
when tempted by life
to forget where I’ve been.
I count all the reasons ~
some lost to this passing.

Nights become windows
I open again.

Near to the place
where burdens are lifted ~
light fills the shadows
with visions of truth.
Lingering breath
of days soon forgotten ~
taps for tomorrow
this moment of proof.

Along the way back
my promise repeated ~
would every “I will”
remember this day.
What of my dreams
will wake other mornings ~
alone by the window
where time fell away.
