Taken with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH1 point & shoot on 7th January 2013.

After months of speculation, anticipation and the announcement that Los Angeles-based philanthropist and co-creator of TV’s “The Simpsons,” Sam Simon, had donated funds for the purchase of a ship, Sea Shepherd’s new Antarctic patrol ship, the SSS Sam Simon, is now in the port of Hobart, Tasmania, docked at Macquarie Wharf 1.

Her 56-meter hull painted bright white with a classic Sea Shepherd Conservation Society logo on her sides, and displaying a large “S” on her tall black smokestack, the Sam Simon has clearly received several months of careful preparation prior to Sea Shepherd’s most ambitious Antarctic campaign yet.

The cruise ship Diamond Princess sails year-round to Alaska & the Gulf of Alaska, the South Pacific, the South Pacific & Australia, and offers exotic cruises including Asia and Africa.

The Diamond Princess was built in 2004, and renovated in 2010. Her gross tonnage is 116,000, and she carries 2,670 passengers. There are 377 inside cabins and 960 outside. Seven hundred and thirty-eight staterooms have balconies.

In the background, one can see the smoke haze blown from the bush fires on the Tasman Peninsula some 90 km to the South East.
