View from a passenger carriage of the Kuranda Scenic Railway as it goes around the curve of the Stoney Creek Falls Bridge on its way down from Kuranda to Cairns, Northern Queensland, Australia.

The bridge is the most outstanding feature of the railway line. The iron lattice construction was completed in the mid 1890’s and stands on three trestle piers. The bridge has a tight four chain radius and the water falls are right alongside the bridge.

This railway line, rising from sea level to 334 metres up the Barron Gorge, took 6 years to build and cost the lives of at least 23 of the workers. Seven lives were lost when the 490 metre long Tunnel 15 collapsed during construction.

This image is dedicated to the workers who lost their lives
