What Do Angels Do?

“What do angels do?”
I asked to no one in view;
For the room was empty
Save for my pup and me.
I looked across at him
And could not help to smile.
I think I know what one angel must do;
He painted my dog!
I could not help but to muse
As I saw the glow of sunlight
Strike across his prostrate form.
Sunlight placed an aura that you could see
As if an angel had touched the sun’s rays,
Pointed my pup out and quiered,
“See what I did?
Just as You, Lord, did tell me!
I painted this one so particularly so.
From hues of earth tones,
Muzzle to the tip of his tail.
Honey, caramel, white and dark chocolate,
Touch of pewter and ebony to accent his mane.
Yes, I painted this dog just as You said.”
He then looked at me and said,
“Just for you!”
I looked at my pup and replied,
“Yes, I know and I thank You so!
Because now I know
What do angels do!

Some must, from ‘Heaven’s Paint store’,
Paint rainbows, morning and ev’ning skies;
Few paint horses, others do cows,
Flowers, fauna and, ough, fungi!
Landscapes of mountains and seas,
Birds, frogs and ‘lil’ things
But this One – painted my pup
So I would know
‘What do angels do!’
