This beautiful male Amur Leopard called Skodje is a temporary resident of Edinburgh Zoo in Edinburgh, Scotland.
The Amur Leopard (Panthera Pardus Orientalis) is a Leopard subspecies native to the southwestern Primorye region of Russia, and is classified as Critically Endangered since 1996 by the IUCN.
The Amur Leopard is also known as the Far Eastern Leopard, Korean Leopard, and Manchurian Leopard.
Fewer than 35 Amur Leopards remain in the wild, and their habitat is under threat from logging, forest fires and land clearance for farming.
Edinburgh Zoo has two Amur Leopards. The male (Skodje – born October 2005) came from Berlin Tierpark Zoo in June 2007. In January 2009, a female (Zane – born April 2007) came from Helsinki Zoo. These beautiful cats are staying at Edinburgh Zoo until a specially designed enclosure is built for them at the Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie, Inverness-shire.
