Artist's Description

A rooftop view showing the elegant minaret of the Sidi Youssef Mosque. Built by Youssef Dey in 1616, it is the oldest of the four Turkic, octagonal minarets of Tunis, with a simple, elegant gallery and pavilion.

The complex was further augmented by a mausoleum built for Youssef and his immediate descendants, a monumental square koubba covered by a green tiled pyramid roof. Its marble façade, a pair of diminishing arches flanked by twin sets of niches, is influenced by the Roman triumphal arches.

On the left, you can see the top of the National Monument on Place de la Kasbah.
