Artist's Description

Kritinia Castle on the west coast of Rhodes seen from the ferry just outside the small harbour of Kamiros Skala.

Built by the Knights of St. John in the 16th century to protect the western side of the island, this spectacular medieval castle was originally on three levels with each level assigned to a different Grand Master. The magnificent castle sits on a steep rock and dominates the traditional nearby mountain village of Kritinia.

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese group of Greek islands.

Camera: Canon EOS 450D (Digital Rebel XSi in the USA)
