Artist's Description

An English Heritage Grade I Listed Building

Opposite the main entrance to Carlisle Cathedral in the Northern city of Carlisle, Cumbria, England is the Fratry, a monastic building dating from the 13th century, reconstructed in the late 15th century by Prior Thomas Gondibour. It now houses the Cathedral library, situated in the Undercroft is the Prior’s Kitchen Restaurant.

The Fratry is a former monastic dining room dating originally from the 13th century and rebuilt in the 15th century. It now offers accommodation in outstanding surroundings for exhibitions (163 square metres of floor space), meetings (seating 100 theatre-style) and other events.

Carlisle Cathedral Fratry is an English Heritage Grade I Listed Building, English Heritage List Entry: 386594.
