Anyone who loves the great outdoors and who has visited the market town of Keswick in the north west of the Lake District National Park, Cumbria, England may well be aware of the George Fisher outdoor equipment store on Borrowdale Road.
George Fisher’s store is one of the UK’s leading retailers of outdoor equipment and clothing and a regular winner of the Outdoor Industry Association ‘Outdoor Retailer of the Year’ award.
This beautiful green slate building was built in 1887 by George Abraham to house his photographic business. The business continued under his two sons, George and Ashley, who were internationally known both as mountain and landscape photographers and pioneer rock climbers.
Ashley was elected the first president of the Fell and Rock Climbing Club in 1907 and George was made an honorary member. In 1967 the family firm ceased trading and the premises were acquired by George Fisher.
