Artist's Description

Taken during the fantastic Bubblemeet in Edinburgh, Scotland on Sunday 24th October 2010.

Built jointly for the Edinburgh Life Assurance Company, the Edinburgh Subscription Library and the Society of Antiquaries in 1843, the impressive building which now houses The Royal Society of Edinburgh stands on the South-East corner of George Street and Hanover Street.

The RSE was created in 1783 by Royal Charter for “the advancement of learning and useful knowledge”.

The Royal Society of Edinburgh bulding is an Historic Scotland Category A Listed Building (HB Number 28864).

Also in the shot (on the left) is the statue of George IV which sits on the roundabout at the intersection of George Street and Hanover Street.

The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
