Artist's Description

The church of the Panagia (Virgin Mary) of the Burgh is a late gothic structure of the 14th century situated close to St Mary’s gate (Pýli Panagías) just inside the city walls of the Medieval Old City of Rhodes on the beautiful Greek Island of Rhodes.

Bombed in the Second World War, only the sanctuary’s three apses remain standing today. It is a popular place for artists and you will often see one or more of them drawing or painting the church remains.

Rhodes is a Greek island approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) southwest of Turkey in the eastern Aegean Sea. It is the largest of the Dodecanese group of Greek islands.

The medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
