Artist's Description

A view of Edinburgh, Scotland from Queen’s Drive (the road that runs round Holyrood Park).

Taken while out for a pleasant days shooting on a lovely Spring day (8th May 2010) with some other RB members.

In the centre background of the shot is Edinburgh Castle which dominates the city like no other castle in Scotland, and is unequalled in the whole of the British Isles. There has been a defensive settlement on the Castle Rock since 600 A.D. making it one of the oldest known european settlements.

The tall black spire on the right is The Hub, the tallest building in Edinburgh.

Centre foreground is St. Leonard’s Crag, dating from 1913, originally James Clark School, now converted to appartments.

The Hub is a Category A Listed Building (HB Number 27542).

St. Leonard’s Crag is a Category B Listed Building (HB Number 30046).

The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Camera: Canon EOS 450D (Digital Rebel XSi in the USA)
Lens: Canon 18-55mm IS
ISO: 200
