Artist's Description

Craigflower House, is a former mansion located at the east end of Torryburn village, Fife, Scotland.

The present house with its crowstepped gables and corner turrets was remodelled from the remains of a 17th century Laird’s house in Scottish baronial style by David Bryce in 1862. Alison Cunningham, the nurse of Robert Louis Stevenson, was born here in 1822.

Originally a private residence, it spent the best part of the 1900s as a prep school before being converted into 12 separate flats in 2002.

Torryburn is a village in Scotland, lying on the north shore of the Firth of Forth. It is one of a number of old port communities that have existed on this coast and at one point even served as port for Dunfermline. It lies in the Bay of Torry in South Western Fife.

Craigflower House is a Category B Listed Building (HB Number 16649).
