An English Heritage Grade I Listed Building

Seen from the City Walls, the imposing York Minster, the second largest Gothic Cathedral of Northern Europe, in the City of York, in North Yorkshire, England.

There has been a church on this spot since 627 AD when a wooden structure was erected in order to baptise Edwin, King of Northumbria. The present building was begun in about 1230 and completed in 1472.

The formal title of York Minster is “The Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of St Peter in York”.

York Minster is an English Heritage Grade I Listed building (Number: 1257222).

The City of York was originally named Eboracum by the Roman founders in 71 AD.
