Artist's Description

The late September sun rising over Venice, northern Italy.

The Royal Clipper, the largest square-rigged ship in service is moored alongside the Calle Dietro Ai Magazzini (Italian: Street behind the warehouses), an extension of the Port of Venice. Used as a cruise ship, her design was based on Preussen, a famous German five-mast Flying P-Liner windjammer built in 1902.

Through the rigging of the Royal Clipper can be seen Club Med 2, one of the largest sailing cruise ships in the world. Powered by two diesel-electric engines and seven computer-operated sails on five masts.

The whole of Venice and its Lagoon is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
