Artist's Description

Under the colannade of the Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale di Venezia) at the East end of Saint Mark’s Square (Piazza San Marco) in Venice, Italy. The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice.

The current palace was largely constructed in Gothic style from 1309 to 1424.

As well as being the Ducal Residence, the palace housed political institutions of the Republic of Venice until the Napoleonic occupation of the city.

The whole of Venice and its Lagoon is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
