Artist's Description

Midland Trail is the road connecting Buena Vista and Lexington, Virginia. Traveling east on through Buena Vista one goes over the Blue Ridge Mountains down onto the plateau and on to Richmond. To the west traveling through Lexington, a traveler is taken over the Allegheny Mountains and on into the Kanawha Valley of West Virginia. In between is a lot of rich farmland whose abundance once earned it the title of, “The Breadbasket of the Confederacy”. The produce stand in the painting used to be situated between the two towns near Lexington; selling fresh local produce and goods made by the Mennonite community. In the painting it is autumn and apples and pumpkins are in abundance. But with a gathering pace our area is changing and the stand has since been razed, a sacrifice to progress like the family farms that go one by one to the developers.

Acrylic painting 24×30 inches of linen covered wood.
