Artist's Description

As long as warmer weather last, yard sales crop up like fungi in the communities here abouts. Folks get a chance to have a purpose in clearing out closets, attics, sheds or garages and the like, for there’s a little “pin money” to be had in the process. Things start early to be done right ,and get wrapped up before dinner to stay decent. A chance besides to exchange a little gossip, the latest news (who’s in the hospital and why some marriage is on the rocks) and poke about in another’s stuff while the talk is getting done.

But there’s a more serious class that pursue the business with devotion bordering on the religious. They are the earliest to arrive, often appearing before the tables are filled and the signs go up,

They know there are bargains to be had by the diligent shopper; and generally manipulate some poor mild manner relative or friend to be their scout and caddy. They remain as fresh and totally absorbed near dinner as when they started with the morning’s dew and grass clipping caught in their flip flops, While a dehydrated look and a vacant stare easily identifies their help. The painting depicts two such folk locked in the relationship.
