Artist's Description

Melbourne Zoo
The Fiji crested iguana (Brachylophus vitiensis) is a critically endangered species of iguana native to certain of the islands of Fiji. The species is thought to have evolved from an iguana species which rafted from South America 13 million years ago. The generic name, Brachylophus, is derived from two Greek words: brachys meaning “short” and lophos meaning “crest” or “plume”, denoting the short spiny crests along the back of this species
