BALAM (Bah lahm) is Mayan for the Jaguar, one of the premier symbols ~ portrayed as gods, whom most feared. Kings and nobility wore jaguar pelts as symbols of authority. Jaguars were also important transformation figures in some Mesoamerican rituals.
Lesson: The shadow-self is that part of ourselves that is kept hidden away in our own personal underworld – the part that never sees the light of day. Part of our shadow is unconscious and part of it is conscious – the secrets about ourselves that we hide from others, and often have difficulty in even admitting to ourselves. But, like the jaguar, tht which is kept concealed in the dark is powerful, and often runs our lives to a greater degree than that which is conscious.
We need to admit certain things to ourselves, warning that these powers run deep and hidden, and we’ll need strong focus within to transform them into positive unfluences in our lives.
The jaguar is an important symbol – that of the night, the hidden, the dark, the secret – the shadow self, that which moves powerfully through our subconscious.
