In Remembrance

Just another neighborhood kid
Grew up on the block
Never had a handout
Learning how to get money
All on his own

Found his true family
Standing behind a flag
Alliances were made for life

Learned the ropes from the leaders
Taught the ropes to the young ones

Had to pull the trigger once
And found it was the best
Protection anyone could promise

He found himself staring down
Into the eyes of his own child
And vowed to protect him
He took every measure
He denied him living in his house
Can’t have a stray finding his precious body
But, that didn’t stop him
From seeing the boy everyday

When one of his family got into trouble
He stood behind the blame
His record began to pile up
Like dirty laundry without
A washing machine

The worst road is always the last
The judge said “Life”
For a crime he didn’t commit
Once again he took the blame
Knowing who was at fault

Not a week deep
His body became one with a knife
Heaven opened it’s doors to him

The only question I have is,
How will God judge him,
As a murderer
Or as a protector?
