Artist's Description

The National Carillon is located on Aspen Island, Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra and was a gift from the British Government to the people of Australia to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Capital. On 26 April 1970 Queen Elizabeth II accepted the National Carillon on behalf of the Australian people. The inaugural recital was then played by John Douglas Gordon after whom the footbridge to Aspen Island has been named.
