Artist's Description

Candi Badut (Badut Temple) is located on the western edge of the city of Malang in Jawa Timur (East Java), Indonesia.

It is thought to have been built in the 8th century AD for the worship of a sandalwood statue named Agustya (which later had to be replaced with a copy made of slightly less temporary black stone). The rubble of the collapsed temple was discovered by the Dutch in 1921 and rebuilt in 1925-7.
