Created in Photoshop with my own textures and one from Angel and Spot on Flickr. The illustrated poppy is from Vintage Stock Art on Facebook.
Overlaying the image is the text of Laurence Binyon’s famous poem, For the Fallen, written in 1914. It is the fourth stanza that is widely known for its use at war memorial services and so forth.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Dedicated to my grandfather, Lt-Col Chandos Hoskyns, and my great-uncle, Captain Norman Austin Taylor.
