At the Cradle of Forest Historic Site in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, is an amazing exhibit of the nation’s first school for forestry which was begun by George Vanderbilt in the early 1900’s. The forestry students bought supplies here and ate a quick lunch of hoop cheese, crackers, potted meat, and a can of peaches before heading out into the field. It was also used as a community center. I added two textures to give this photo a more vintage look. The Cradle of Forestry is a wonderful place to spend a day walking the trails which take the visitor back in time through exhibits, events, reenactments and more.
