Artist's Description

The poem by Tolkien “The Road goes eveer on and on”.

The text and layout is significantly influenced by Mira Calligrafica (1562) as I tried and failed to match the style of this book. This book is considered the high point of late 16th century calligraphy and botanical painting and is now held by the Getty Museum, USA.

The acathus leaves follow the Goetingen model book (C15) in technique

The writing is india ink, with the acathus leaves in gouache and gold leaf ona flat gesso for the border.
