Artist's Description

St. Bartholomew is one of the most popular names since he is one of Jesus’ disciples. The feast of St. bartholomew commemorates the life of the man who lived as Jesus’ loyal disciple. The observance day is participated by folks in Roman Catholic as well as Orthodox churches.

He is known for many converted to Christianity. His name has been well-recognized in Armenia, some parts of India and Asia minor. Though he is not mentioned in the Gospel of John, some theologians agree that his real name could be Nathaniel. Most of the actual information about St. Bartholomew or Nathanael is based on old sermons and ancient writings. In the Gospel of John, he is known as Nathaniel. He is considered as one of Jesus’ first disciples.

Bartholomew is observed to be a martyr in Armenia. He was tortured. His skin was flayed from his body while he was alive. A sad and tragic story has been told and fox agreed to commemorate the passion of Bartholomew. It happens on June 30, in the Orthodox Church. But in Roman Catholic tradition, the Bartholomew Day happens on August 24.
