Too Long Ago To Matter

I feel like I’m committing murder.
I turned forbidden music on to feel you near again.
We said our story faced its end.
And yet I feel – I know – that now it’s only stronger.
The love. It’s greater. Bigger.
I might as well just take the gun
And pull the trigger.
I don’t understand how these lines had found a way
To lurk through me, behind my head, and have my fingers say
That I still love although we’re now more than ceased and gone.
We have moved on at our own desire,
Leaving both a heartfelt, painful smile.
The distance in between is pulling
And you can feel it, too.
Don’t hide it. Stop that. I can read you through.
Whether you are or are not willing,
It’s there, but your pride denies.
Your pride. The one that laughs as your heart dies.
Be it. Be it all your way.
But, please, don’t turn around when you will walk away.
You might catch me counting every step you make.
You might. But it also might you won’t.
Oh, please, just don’t, just don’t.
Just go, alright?
And let me write. Wrong or right.
Just let me be.
