under streaming yellow lights

I should have kissed you under the yellow streaming lights, when the night was too still for whispers.

I wish I could take back that moment standing with you on a silent street.
Hands clenching, nails parting flesh, half crescents running red in the palm of my hand.

The night was blue. Hot blood under goose-pimpled skin. We stood together for half an hour, a frozen moment, I will always be standing there with you.

My heart twisted in contortionist bends,
The way you were looking at me, all murmurs and hidden truths, I should have taken your hand in that moment, taken your hand in mine and pulled you lightly toward me.

Our noses would brush for an instance, you’d look down for a moment and my fingers would gently trail the delicate line of your jaw bone.

You would look at me and i’d be lost and found in the same instance.

I should have kissed you slowly under the effervescent glow, galaxies of light headed longing, between the shifting plates of tremoring lips.

I should not have walked away.

i should have turned back and ran to you, pounding white knuckled on your door.
You would have answered, sweet confusion knotted in your brow, i should have kissed you then, in the warm bathing light of your doorway.

I should have told you.

I should not have walked away.
