To My Father

Father I am a writer, I am a poet.
I write of love and anger
using my memories and dreams.
My hands are strong like yours,
but I work through them to speak.
I remember watching you,
with your steel pipes and electric wands,
I was fascinated, I was proud.
Father you are an artist.

Father, I am a writer, I am a poet.
My thoughts carry my expressions,
and I think in different ways.
My mind is agile like yours,
but I fantasize, while you construct.
I remember you working
with measurements, levels, and degrees
It is a second nature to you.
Father, you are a craftsman

Father I am a writer, I am a poet.
I find pleasure in a well written story or poem
and I feel I have accomplished much.
I take pride in our likeness, and
in the ways you have taught me.
I have used your guidance and ideals
to make myself who I am today
and I continue on in hopes of honoring you
My father, the artisan, the craftsman, the poet.

Artist's Description

I never took the welding trade seriously enough to give it an honest try. Kudos to my dad for trying his best. His patience with me shined bright those days. I was a young fool though, too young to recognize the importance of what he was really trying to teach me. years later, I wrote this in recognition of our differences and similarities.
