A very foggy and very cold Venice, made for some non-standard pictures. This was taken on the Grand Canal (yes, really) the day before Christmas, with fog rolling in by the minute. Most people were in shops, for last minute present-buying, or at home, preparing for guests. Consequently, the boats (gondolas, motor boats, water buses), were only too happy to rest, waiting for a sunny day… (which came, next day, see the proof here below).
The whole of Venice is a designated historical site (see the UNESCO list entry) – if you look at Canaletto’s paintings, you’ll notice that little has changed in 300 years!
(This would look great as a canvas painting, I think.)
